A leading OEM manufacturer specialising in High-Pressure Die Casting (HPDC) and Low-Pressure Die Casting (LPDC) components for the automotive sector. The company operates advanced machinery with a tank capacity of 550 liters to support precision casting operations.
The Challenge
The manufacturer faced high power consumption as the hydraulic pumps were drawing more amperage than expected, leading to increased energy costs. Rust formation in the reservoir was another recurring problem, compromising system integrity and requiring frequent maintenance. Additionally, pump longevity was also at risk, with visible wear particles appearing in patch tests, indicating inadequate lubrication and increased component wear.
MotulTech's Solution
MotulTech recommended using SAFCO RUBRIC HFC 40, a fire-resistant hydraulic oil. This water-glycol based solution is enhanced with advanced anti-wear, antioxidant, anti-rust, and anti-foam additives. Designed for smooth and reliable hydraulic system operation, it delivers high fire resistance, making it ideal for equipment operating near open flames or hot metal surfaces.
The Outcome
Power savings up to 1.5% were achieved, as confirmed by lower electric motor amperage and reduced power consumption. The reservoir remained rust-free, and due to the fluid’s low evaporation rate. Pump life was noticeably extended, indicating excellent protection and lubrication. Additionally, pump noise levels were reduced, with low decibel values recorded, thanks to minimised cavitation and improved overall system performance.
